AUSTIN – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)/Texas announced their legislative endorsements for the 2016 election, and State Representative Ed Thompson was not only endorsed by the respected organization, but also recognized as a Champion for Small Businesses.

"It is an honor to receive this support from NFIB/Texas, the state's foremost small business association," said Rep. Thompson. "I am a small business owner, so I know firsthand how government overreach and burdensome regulations can hinder our success. I am proud of the work we accomplished during the 84th Legislative Session, namely reducing the franchise – or business – tax by 25%, and I look forward to advocating for small business owners going into the 85th Session.”

NFIB represents over 300,000 small businesses in the United States, with a presence in all 50 states. With members focusing on issues as varied as healthcare, agriculture, energy, and the economy, policies and positions are decided directly by the members, not executive staff or the Board of Directors. NFIB/Texas has over 20,000 members, encompassing a variety of issues important for all Texans.

"NFIB/Texas is proud to endorse Rep. Thompson in his re-election bid for HD 29,” said Will Newton, the Executive Director of NFIB/Texas. “His efforts on behalf of small business during his tenure in the Texas House have helped make Texas the business friendly state it is. As a small business owner himself, we know he understands the damage that over-taxation and overregulation can do to small businesses in this state and will continue to protect small businesses—the engine of the Texas economy.”

Representative Ed Thompson is currently serving in his second term in the Texas House of Representatives, encompassing Pearland, Alvin, Manvel, Brookside Village, Hillcrest, Iowa Colony, and Liverpool. He is the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Land and Resource Management, and serves as a member of the House Environmental Regulation Committee, the Cruise Industry Development Committee, the House Select Committee on State Real Property Data Collection, Reporting and Assessment, and the Coastal Barrier System Committee.
