Hello and Happy New Year!


Thank you for signing up to receive my Capitol Review! This week marked the beginning of the 85th Legislative Session: my third session serving as State Representative for House District 29. We will be sending updates out every other week during session to keep you updated on issues important to our district - keep reading!




It was a busy day on Tuesday, January 10th, when I was sworn into office for my third term as State Representative for House District 29. Thanks to everyone who came to the Opening Day Ceremony. I am thankful for your support!


Before we get started with a bunch of legislation and late nights at the Capitol, I want to introduce my staff to you. Please feel free to visit us any time you are in the Texas Capitol!


Meet Our Staff




Meet Liz Sitta, District Director

A House District 29 native, Liz has a background in Business Management, Health Services Management, Marketing, and Recruiting. On Team Thompson since January 2016, she currently serves on the Board for the Thelma Ley Anderson YMCA, is a proud Pearland ISD RISE Mentor, and is on the Kidz Harbor Foundation Board. Liz has been married to the love of her life for 8 years and has two young children. Meet Staci Rives, Legislative Director

Staci joined Team Thompson in December 2016. This will be her 5th legislative session as a staffer at the Capitol. While she's not from District 29, she went to Dobie High School and worked at the Vic Coppinger YMCA during high school. She graduated from Southwestern University in 2010 with a degree in Political Science. Staci currently lives in South Austin, where she is active in her church and the Junior League of Austin. Meet Emily Kirchner, Chief of Staff

Emily has been Rep. Thompson's Chief of Staff since he was elected in November of 2012. A graduate of Texas A&M University and the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, this is her 5th session at the Capitol. She previously worked for Rep. Dennis Bonnen (R-Angleton), Rep. Lyle Larson (R-San Antonio), at Heritage Bank in Pearland, and at International Justice Mission in Washington, DC. Emily lives in South Austin with her husband Tim and daughter Annelise. Emily runs the Capitol office, leading our team and manging constituent correspondence and scheduling requests. Ab Henry is from Houston and is studying Biology at the University of Texas, Gina Shahidullah is from Arlington and is studying International Relations at the University of Texas, and Merdith Owens is from Willis and is studying Political Science at Southwestern University.

Rep. Thompson's Bills

As of today, we have filed the following 4 bills this session. We will be sharing more information on the bills we are filing throughout session, but in the meantime here is a quicklook at the bills we have filed thus far: 

  • HB 915: combats the rampant problem of junk "named driver" auto policies in Texas.
  • HB 938: designate a portion of FM 518 in Pearland as the Officer Endy Ekpanya Memorial Highway.
  • HB 947: designates a portion of FM 1462 in Brazoria County as the Lieutenant Colonel Roy Lin Tisdale Memorial Highway.
  • HB 991: helps counties with grand jury summons.
